The Northern Territory Water Safety Advisory Council (NTWSAC) was established in 2002 to:
The challenge for the Council is to maintain the Northern Territory’s under five years of age record, as well as implement strategies to combat drownings amongst older Territorians, particularly men.
The NTWSAC is a ministerially appointed body that provides advice to the Minister for Local Government regarding important and emerging water safety issues. Members volunteer to be appointed and membership is sought from government departments, organisations and individuals with an interest or expertise in water safety. These include:
