Education Unit

Water Safety Education

The Education Unit was formed in 2004 to raise awareness about water safety.

The role of the Education Unit is to:

  • Encourage safer participation in and around water through the development of ongoing programs such as 'Water Safety Month'.
  • Promote, and make available, water safety related resources which can be downloaded from the publications page; these include the 'Marine Safety Activity Book' and the 'Good Ideas Book'.
  • Establish best practice water safety standards and guidelines.
  • Monitor drowning and near drowning injuries in order to provide accessible, accurate information.

In 2004 the Education Unit ran Water Safety Week (25 – 30 October 2004) in which a number of events and programs were made available to the public. Colouring in competitions and school activities were popular throughout Northern Territory schools and helped tremendously by raising water safety awareness issues among children.

The Education Unit staff are available to visit schools and other organisation; please call 1300 301 059 for more information.

We recommend you stop by this site regularly to view updates on Water Safety Month, competition details, new resources and information on future programs.
