NT Water Safety Advisory Council

The Northern Territory Water Safety Advisory Council was established in June 2002 and has developed a Northern Territory Water Safety Plan (pdf 514Kb) to assist in the prevention of drowning and near drowning incidents.

The plan provides a better coordination of Water Safety Programs, and identifies and builds partnerships on projects to address areas of need.

  • The role of the Northern Territory Water Safety Advisory Council is to:
  • Provide advice to the Minister for Local Government on water safety related matters;
  • Identify gaps in existing provisions of water safety initiatives in relation to the services necessary for the prevention of drowning and near drowning in the Northern Territory; and
  • Co-ordinate, develop and implement a Northern Territory Water Safety Plan that focuses on Water Safety Education, Research and Data Collection and Standards.
