Water Safety

Water activities are a great part of the Territory lifestyle. To keep people safe in and around water, all Territorians need to be water safety wise.


Our Water Safety Plan, developed by the Northern Territory Water Safety Advisory Council, was introduced in 2002. It aims to protect Territorians through a comprehensive and coordinated approach to water safety and includes:

Before 2002, the Northern Territory had the highest rate of drownings in the under five age group per capita in Australia. We now have one of the lowest.
